How care works here
Health services in Timor-Leste are organised in tiers, and each one refers you onward when you need more than it can give. Starting at the right place saves you a journey.
Integrated Community Health Services — the monthly health day held in villages and hamlets across the country, including Atauro. The closest health contact most families have.
Community health centres and health posts staffed through the municipal health services — open on regular days, with nurses, midwives and visiting doctors.
The referral hospitals serving groups of municipalities, with inpatient beds, a laboratory and the capacity for common surgery.
The national referral hospital — the top of the referral chain for the whole country, and the specialist centre the regional hospitals refer into.
This describes how the national health service is organised. It is not medical advice, and it cannot tell you which tier is right for a particular problem — a health worker decides that.
What we are building
Nothing below is finished. They are listed in the order they are being built, and the ones that touch your health record are last on purpose — the protections come first.
A searchable national directory of health facilities — SISCa posts, health centres, hospitals, private clinics, pharmacies and dentists — with opening days, services and how to get there.
Plain-language health information in Tetum, Portuguese and English — written for Timor-Leste, and reviewed by qualified clinicians before a single page goes live.
One place for your own health record — consultations, prescriptions, vaccinations, dental, therapies and vitals — written by your doctor and by you. It does not exist yet, and it will not until the rules that protect it are built first.
National stock control for medication and medical equipment — so a health centre knows what it has, what expires next, and what is on its way, and the country can see where supply is short.
Before we hold any of your health information
No health record will ever be readable by a clinician without your explicit consent, and you can withdraw that consent at any time.
Entries are added, never overwritten. A correction is a new entry linked to the old one, so the history stays honest.
Every read and every write goes to an audit trail that cannot be edited or deleted — including by us.
No real patient information is stored anywhere on this platform until the legal, safety and clinical review is signed off. Today, none is.
